Colorado Romance Writers, Romance Writers of America and Lighthouse Writers Workshop have been three valuable organizations that have helped propel my writing.

Colorado Romance Writers has introduced me to published writers and unpublished writers that have helped provide a support network for any writer.  I have attended monthly meetings, critique clubs and workshops that have pushed my writing to high limits and I encourage anyone to join their local chapter whether it’s romance or another genre.

Romance Writers of America is the national organization that governs and assimilates information on trends in romance.  Their site is user friendly and provides updated information on agents, publishers, national and chapter contests.  RWA provides a monthly magazine with update articles, new sales, changes within the industry and contest results.  If you are starting out as a romance writer, I think this is a valuable resource to help you navigate through the industry.

Lighthouse Writers Workshop is an organization that provides classes, one day seminars, retreats and one-to-one consulting to writers.  These classes and seminars consist of participants submitting works in progress and they receive both positive and negative feedback on what works and didn’t work in their writing.  All genres are welcomed within this organization.  I have found that my writing has improved from the feedback provided, the exercises I have completed and the information I have received.  If you have such an organization in your area, I highly recommend you look into taking some classes and seminars to help you improve your skills.
